An All-Encompassing Conservation Experience

This Wilde Tracks curated mission brings together the best of WildeKZN and WildeReptile, creating a unique, all-encompassing experience that explores conservation from multiple perspectives – from wildlife veterinary care and endangered species protection to reptile conservation, anti-venom research, anti-poaching and community engagement.

Go beyond the safari and into the field, working alongside qualified wildlife veterinarians, conservation experts and herpetologists on real conservation initiatives. Depending on field requirements, participants may assist with rhino dehorning, wildlife collaring and tagging, game capture, elephant translocation and veterinary emergency call-outs, while developing practical skills in tracking, telemetry and wildlife care.

The mission also offers an immersive introduction to reptile conservation, with opportunities for snake handling, snake call-outs and, where suitable animals and field situations arise, crocodile capture and relocation. Participants will also visit a specialist research centre to discover how venom is transformed into life-saving anti-venom, with work supporting local medical and conservation initiatives.

Beyond wildlife operations, participants connect with local communities and conservation education, while joining anti-poaching teams, K-9 patrols and snare patrols. Depending on the reserve we are working with, there may also be opportunities to take part in Big Four or Big Five game drives, with the possibility of walking with the Big Four if time allows between veterinary and conservation activities.

This is more than a wildlife experience – it is a curated, hands-on conservation mission designed to provide a deeper understanding of the people, science and fieldwork behind protecting South Africa’s wildlife.
