- Get ready for an unforgettable adventure in wildlife medicine at Belize’s premier wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center! You'll work side-by-side with a qualified wildlife veterinarian, gaining hands-on experience in real clinical settings. From learning reptile medicine during a visit to an iguana rehabilitation center to participating in annual health exams of resident animals, this program offers deep immersion in veterinary care and wildlife conservation. Be part of rescue intake procedures, assist with treatments, surgeries, and anesthesia, and take part in practical sessions on safe animal handling, environmental enrichment, diagnostics, and more. Labs will challenge and inspire you with topics such as suture techniques, radiography, necropsy, comparative anatomy, parasitology, and blood analysis. Through engaging case-based discussions, you'll explore Wildlife Medicine, One Health, and the critical role of veterinarians in conservation. Theoretical sessions will build your foundation in natural history, anatomy, physiology, anesthesia, zoonosis, and zoo medicine. Clinical days include differential diagnostics, dose calculations, and therapy design, giving you the unique chance to live the life of a wildlife vet in action. Off site excursions give more background to conservation and history of Belize, and include the Belize Zoo, Iguana Rescue Centre and Mayan Ruins.

- Embark on a truly unique conservation journey—of the crocodilian kind! Join the Crocodile Research course and gain hands-on experience working with crocodiles, primates, birds, and a variety of Belize’s incredible wildlife while exploring the country’s rich and diverse ecosystems. Across our 2-week or 1-month programs, you’ll take part in real-world fieldwork including day and night crocodile surveys, nest monitoring, biodiversity assessments in lagoons and mangroves, and mangrove restoration projects with the Belize Mangrove Alliance. Participants in the month-long program have the added opportunity to join primate surveys, tracking howler and spider monkeys rescued from the illegal pet trade, as well as spend three dedicated days assisting in bird rehabilitation, supporting recovery and soft release back into the wild—a rare chance to contribute to avian conservation firsthand. Throughout the course, you’ll assist with crocodile husbandry and behavioral studies, participate in community education initiatives, and gain insights from expert-led sessions on research methods, ecology, parasitology, genetics, and more. Ideal for aspiring conservationists, wildlife professionals, and anyone passionate about protecting biodiversity, this course offers immersive field experience, one-on-one mentorship, and the chance to make a meaningful impact—helping conserve some of the world’s most misunderstood species, one croc, monkey, and bird at a time.
